Lillian Beard

Co-Founder & Managing Director
BSN, RN, CCRN · Truett McConnell University · Incoming DNP (Nurse Anesthesia), Boston College

Lillian Beard was born and raised in Kitgum, in Northern Uganda, the same region that BDH’s flagship Caracal’s Travel Center will serve along the Gulu–Nimule corridor. Growing up in Acholiland gave her a firsthand understanding of how roads, trade and access to services shape the lives of families and communities, and that understanding sits at the heart of why BDH exists.

In 2013, Lillian moved to the United States to pursue her education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Truett McConnell University in 2020 and went on to build a career in critical care nursing. She is a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), a national certification from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, and is licensed as a Registered Nurse in Georgia, California and the multistate Nurse Licensure Compact.

Lillian began her career as a travel nurse, taking assignments at leading hospitals and trauma centers across the United States. Over those years she cared for cardiac, surgical, trauma and medically complex patients, adapted quickly to new teams and systems, and progressed into leadership, coordinating staffing, admissions and patient flow on a busy surgical unit.

Today, Lillian specialises in cardiovascular intensive care at major hospitals in Atlanta, caring for the most critically ill heart patients, including those recovering from open-heart surgery and organ transplants. She manages advanced life-support technology, trains and mentors new ICU nurses, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives that reduce infections and shorten hospital stays.

In May 2027, Lillian will begin her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nurse Anesthesia at Boston College’s William F. Connell School of Nursing, preparing her to practise as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Lillian’s commitment to Uganda extends beyond business. She has volunteered as a healthcare provider in Ugandan clinics with limited resources, delivering triage and bedside care and leading community health education for young people.

At BDH, Lillian brings the precision, leadership and sound judgement of critical care to every project. She champions the group’s values of local empowerment and responsible development, ensuring that every BDH project creates jobs, builds fair partnerships with landowners, and leaves the communities along East Africa’s trade corridors stronger than before.
